Book Review: Sing You Home - Jodi Picoult

If you haven't heard of Jodi Picoult then what are you doing with your life? Author of My Sisters Keeper, Picoult has once again produced an outstanding and gripping novel. If you're familiar with Jodi Picoult's story, then you'll know they all have a twist, a court case, and make you question real-life struggles.

In this thought-provoking story, married couple of 10 years, Zoe and Max, have continually tired and failed to have children. Zoe wants to keep trying despite it being potentially dangerous for her health, but max refuses and wants a divorce.

A while later, music therapist Zoe finds herself falling in love again, with another chance to have a potential child. Her new partner is a woman, and gay rights are a very central topic in the story. Zoe wants to use her and Max's frozen embryos to implant in her new partner, Vanessa. However, she needs her ex husbands permission to do so. Who actually owns these embryos?

Since their divorce, max has moved in with his brother and sister-in-law, who also have fertility issues. He has also joined their evangelical Christian church, who do not believe in gay rights, and believe that Zoe and Vanessa would be unfit parents, as lesbians. During court, Max believes that giving the embryos to his brother and sister-in-law would be more beneficial for the child, as they are good Christians, despite neither of them being the biological parents.

This is an extremely gripping novel, I just wanted to find out who would receive the embryos. I'm not going to spoil the ending so I won't even mention that. But to summarise, this tale explores the law, religion, gay rights and true love within it's themes and concepts. If you've read any of Jodi picoults other novels, I'd say this one is up there with the best and I'd massively reccommend it as it was running through my head for days after.

Thank you for taking your time to read my review,
