Happy New Year everyone! And welcome back to my blog! I'm already a day late with this, but that's because I've been so busy with family New Year celebrations!! I'm not the type of person to say 'new year, new me' because I believe that we should be constantly improving who we are, and that we should always be true to ourselves. Saying you want to be a 'new' version of yourself is like saying the person you are isn't good enough, YOU ARE ALWAYS GOOD ENOUGH. Always be yourself and never ever change for anyone (unless you're turning nicer).
2015 was a difficult year for me, it has its ups and downs. I struggled a lot with my mental health. And although its not nice to reveal personal things on the internet, I think its important. Its important to show other people that they're not alone, that they can get better. Just like me. But I'm not remembering 2015 for the mental illness I faced, I'm remembering it for getting through that. I'm remembering it for how lucky I am to have such wonderful people in my life: my friends and family. Because I am so fortunate and I'm incredibly grateful for that. Its been a bloody good year in all honesty.
Highlights of 2015:
- I exited teenage-hood by turning 20
- I passed my first year of university with an overall 2:1
- Attended my brothers' graduation (proud lil sister moment)
- I had an amazing family holiday to Malchesine in Italy
- I had another amazing holiday to the Lake District, where I've been going every year of my life.
- I learned/Self-taught myself to play the ukulele (massive thanks to The Ukulele Teacher onYouTube)
- I joined the magic society at university, where I've made new friends, become more self-confident and learned some cool magic tricks
- I Started an online petition to celebrate International Men's Day at my uni, which received close to 5,000 signatures
- I spoke live on BBC radio York about my petition
- Moved into my Second Year house with two of my best friends
- Had a fabulous Christmas and New Year
After such a difficult start to the year, I'm incredibly proud of myself for everything I have achieved and I can only look back on the year fondly. I have such high hopes for 2016, life just keeps getting better!
- In February, I will be halfway through my degree
- Also in February, I'm going to Amsterdam with university friends
- I'm going to be 21 in May!!
Hopefully, just like last year, I will experience so much that I never even anticipated. Recently I came across a concept called Project 365, in which participants photograph one thing they're grateful for each day. So I'm doing my own version, and writing down what I'm grateful for each day. Doing little things like this helps you focus on the good in your life, so that you don't dwell on the bad too much. Ultimately, I am always going to stay positive and optimistic. Because no matter how hard life gets, just remember that it ALWAYS gets better. I promise.
Much love to you all and Happy New Year!! Here's to 2016!! x
