Baking Easter Cookies

Hi everyone and happy Easter bank holiday weekend! Today I thought I'd blog about some cookies I baked yesterday (which turned out to be a bit of a disaster)! Disclaimer: Recipe is not my own.

Last Sunday, I went to a vintage and craft fair with my parents. I'm a lover of all things vintage and was hoping for many bargains. But sometimes, its good that things don't turn out the way we expect and there weren't many clothes there that I wanted to buy. THIS IS A GOOD THING because the likelihood is that I'd have spent more than I could afford on clothes that would sit in my wardrobe for two years and get worn once. We spent time in the vintage tea rooms and had a cuppa and a snack each, but it was the cookie recipe that this blog post is about.

On one of the stalls, there was a company called The Jar House. You can follow their facebook page here: The Jar House Facebook. They had some lovely pre-ready recipes in jars, containing all the measured out dry ingredients, All you have to do is add the wet ingredients, which in this case consisted of an egg and 60g of butter. I've never baked cookies before, so this was a whole new venture for me. But I can follow a recipe pretty well and wondered what could possibly go wrong. All was fine when I mixed it, then I put it in the oven...
The Recipe said something along the lines of 'shape into cookies and put in the oven' so naturally, I went for the big chunky biscuit look. Nonono. Bad Ruth. Somehow I didn't consider the fact that these are COOKIES, not loaves of bread or cakes or whatever. I opened the oven to check on them after a few minutes and found this: (see picture on the left). Of course I was incredibly confused and dreaded the outcome. The Recipe had said to bake the cookies for 10 - 12 minutes so I checked up on them at 11 minutes. I did not have big chunky cookies anymore. No, I had a cookie. One cookie.

It had become apparent that my cookie baking skills were not the best, and I'm sure that Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood would disapprove if this were The Great British Bake Off. Also, I actually had to bake them for around 20 minutes because they were so wet still from putting too much mixture on one baking tray. Oops.

After they were baked, I cut them up into loads of weirdly shaped cookies. And to be completley honest with you, they are delicious. Although that's not really because I baked them, I give full credit to The Jar House.

Thank you for reading, let me know if you have had any baking disasters!!
Have a lovely Easter everyone,
Peace and love xo
